Live It, Love It, Run It

FAQ – Races

We have published a schedule for the weekend. Please make sure you arrive in plenty of time to register for your event.

We use timing chip that are to be worn on either the bib number (solo runners) or baton (pairs and teams). If you are not running please do not recross the mats that are located at the finish line before the transition zone.

PAIRS & TEAMS - It is your responsibility to return your BATON to Race HQ at either the end of your race or if you withdraw early. Any BATONS found to be missing after the event will incur a cost of around £50 to replace them. We assign the baton to the pair/team, so we will contact you if we discover any missing.

Race times will be available online during the event for live updates and on the site after the event.

We will open registration from 1700 on Friday and this will remain open throughout Friday evening until 9:30pm (small pause at 2100 as 36 hour event gets underway). It will reopen on Saturday morning through till the end of the event.

If you arrive late, please come to the Race HQ tent adjacent to the start/finish arch/gantry to collect your race chip and number.

We may open registration for those able to attend the site on Thursday to collect their numbers and tees. Race timing chips WILL NOT be given out at this time to minimise any risk of them getting lost/forgotten. But can be collected from race control on your arrival on Friday or Saturday.

Yes, for both solos, pairs and teams, you can take a break anytime during the event. Your 'rest' period will be reflected in the next lap.

If your in a team, the only two rules are;

  • Every team member must complete at least one lap.
  • Only one active runner can be on the course at any time.

If you want to be accompanied on a lap, the other runner must remove their timing chip and that lap will not count. On the final lap, team mates may join their final leg runner for the entire lap or a portion of it. In this case, all runners (except the final leg runner) must remove their chips. Don't forget to hand your chip in though at the end.  For Pairs and Teams, one runner must be carrying the dedicated baton during the event lap, otherwise this will not count.

Yes, we encourage parents to run with their kids to ensure they stay on course and finish the race with a smile.

We have one distances following the main event course with a deviation. This deviations off the main course is marked with either a BLUE or YELLOW arrow (on white background).

Please note: that during the kids race, there will be runners on the course from the 36 hour and Sat AM Hope12 race.

We aim to make the laps as close to 5 miles as we can. Please note, we check the final route utilising a number of GPS systems, accuracy is dependent upon the technology and software used, the satellite signal, the absence of tree cover for the signal, your racing line and many other factors. Therefore, it is often the case that runners will record a variation on the distance of around 10%.

We change the route every year to provide a different challenge, differing scenery and new areas. A link to the course map is available at https://www.gbultras.com/hope-trail-festival/

Newnham Estate provides numerous terrains from tarmac, grass, soil paths, forest tracks with a variety of undulations from steep hills to gentle inclines/descents.

The course often runs along the brook, through forestry and provides views over the moors from the highest point.  Road trainers may well be suitable however weather conditions can impact the terrain so trail or hybrid trainers are recommended.
